OpenNI/NITE Installation on Windows May 2014: PrimeSense was bought by Apple at the end of April, and the OpenNI.org website was shut down. Fortunately, several sites have set up archives of the old OpenNI and NITE software, such as Simple-OpenNI and Structure Sensor. The OpenNI Organization is primarily supported by PrimeSense, the company who originally developed the Kinect hardware for Microsoft. The OpenNI framework is not specifically designed to work with the Kinect hardware – rather it is capable of interfacing with various sensors that all happen to be located in the hardware stack known as the Kinect.
- Once completed, I was able to use Kinect via Terminal, NiTE, & SensorKinect without a problem. However, when I try to utilize the SimpleOpenNI library via Processing, it tells me I need to install OpenNI first. Given that OpenNI is already installed, in the steps above, I'm not sure what's wrong. I've tried restarting and whatnot.
- This post is for all the people looking to remove all the Microsoft Kinect drivers for Mac that were included in previous setup tutorials. This includes instructions on how to uninstall XQuartz, Cmake, MacPorts, OpenNi, NiTE and SensorKinect (as well as upgrading Xcode).
- Rosdep install opennikinect rosmake opennikinect After installation you need to unplug and plug in all OpenNI compatible (Primesense SDK & Kinect) devices. Each user working with a device needs to be member of the 'video' group.
I am trying to install kinect on my macOS Sierra (10.12).I have used the explanation on greenfoot, so I downloaded Openni, KinectDriver and NITE, extracted them got to the unzipped directory through the terminal and tried to install using the command:
sudo ./install.sh
This is what I get as a result though:
I have tried to find a solution but i didn't manage to find something that could help me for Sierra.

It's rootless issue. Since 10.11, Apple don't give you root power to install the code. Try the second link to see whether you can get the root power back for installation.https://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/193368/what-is-the-rootless-feature-in-el-capitan-really
